The piece below is a reading activity called 'Behind the Scenes'. It was a great activity and I really enjoyed it because it was a bit difficult. What do the pictures, diagrams or maps tell? Do they give the same meaning as the words?
In the picture the palm trees look like the wind turbines. The palm trees are a part of the environment and they look healthy from not getting effected by the pollution of green house gases. The picture of the palm trees makes people get the impression that both of them are healthy to our environment by not producing air pollution. The wind turbines are a way to make our environment healthy and the wind energy is renewable.
Who is funding the website or research?
GE imagination at work.
How might it have influenced the information being reported?
It could influence people to use wind electricity not energy that pollutes our environment. This will make a better end result for our environment and happiness.
How has the author represented characters or people, facts or events?
They have used a beautiful outdoor, healthy environment to show what can happen if we use wind electricity. Wind electricity won’t be seen but it will show a difference if we all use it.
FOTOBABBLE
Fotobabble is a great website for summarizing a book. You record your reading while the picture is on the screen so you can tell what it is about.
How effective was you tool?
It was very easy to work but I found it sometimes hard at first when the sound wasn't working.
How has the this activity helped you to think about and improve your oral reading?
It has made me think that if I practise the passage a few times it will become perfect and I can be better at fluency, volume, expression and clarity.
What difficulties did you have?
I just had the problem of the sound because it wasn't working why I tried to record.
Are there any reading skills you need to work on still?
I don't think anything stood out that I need to work on.
In Reading we had to design a quiz. We chose a short listed book and then we decided on a quiz website. We then had to to put the QR code onto our wiki so people could see what we had done.
What did you enjoy most about this task?
Working in a group on something that was a bit difficult.
What was your biggest challenge?
Our challenge was getting the QR code onto our wiki page.
Which skill did you find the most useful?
The question generator.
List 2 ways this task could help you in your future learning?
If in high school I need to make a quiz I will know how to work it.
I will know how to put a QR code onto a wiki page.
